GPL: Hearts of Oak move into Top Four Contention with win over Accra Lions

Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club is back in the race for a top four finish. They won 3-1 against Accra Lions in the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League. This victory puts Hearts just two points behind fourth-place Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Hearts now have 52 points from 14 wins, 10 draws, and eight losses in 32 games. Most teams in the league have played 31 games so far. A busy schedule is coming up on Sunday, May 25.

The loss keeps Accra Lions in 16th place among the 18 teams. They are tied on points with Karela United, who are ranked 15th. Karela will face Vision FC, ranked 14th, on Sunday.

Hearts opened the scoring with an Enock Asubonteng goal in the 11th minute. The Lions' goalkeeper Daniel Afful should have saved that shot.

Kwesi Asmah scored in the 79th minute to extend Hearts' lead. Hamza Issah added another goal in the 88th minute to secure the win.

Hearts of Oak will play Legon Cities and FC Samartex next on June 1 and June 8, respectively.
