GRA promises to refund all E-Levy deductions after April, 2025

The Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, has made an important announcement. He assured that all Electronic Transfer Levy deductions will be refunded after April 2, 2025.

This decision follows a directive for charging entities to stop these deductions. The Ghana Revenue Authority issued a Secured Gazette Notice to repeal the tax on April 2, 2025.

Mr. Sarpong spoke to journalists during a retreat for GRA's top management in Akosombo. He emphasized that this assurance aligns with earlier directives given to charging entities.

These entities must adjust their systems to suspend charges on transactions and other taxes approved by President Mahama. Mr. Sarpong mentioned that they had extensive discussions with these entities.

They prepared action plans to help implement the law promptly. He noted that this is a technological issue and agreed that all charging systems should be disabled by early morning on April 3, 2025.

He reassured citizens that anyone affected by the e-levy during this period would receive refunds. The GRA will reconcile with all charging entities to ensure proper refunds are issued from zero hours on April 2.

Mr. Sarpong also indicated there is an agreed guideline for all parties involved in eliminating the tax. He remains committed to ensuring refunds for any levies charged after April 2, 2025.

The two-day retreat aims to reflect on strategies for meeting revenue targets this year. Daniel Nuer, Director of Revenue Policy at the Ministry of Finance, spoke on behalf of the Finance Minister.

He assured GRA of government support in mobilizing more revenue for the state. The retreat's theme is “transforming for impact and growth.”
