GWF President showcase Ghana at African Weightlifting congress in Mauritius

Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib is the President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF). He is currently in Mahebourg, Mauritius. He represents Ghana at the African Weightlifting Congress.

This important event has gathered top officials and experts from Africa. They are discussing the future of weightlifting on the continent.

Mr. Shaib has met with key figures in global weightlifting. This includes Mr. Khaled Mhalhel, President of the Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA). It also includes Ms. Ursula Papandrea, First Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

Their talks focus on collaboration among member countries. They aim to improve governance structures and athlete development.

At the congress, Mr. Shaib emphasized its significance. He said, “The Congress is an important platform for charting a united path for African weightlifting.” He feels privileged to be part of these discussions shaping their sport's future.

The Congress will hold an Electoral Congress on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. New leadership will be elected for the continental federation then.

The event will conclude with a major weightlifting competition featuring top African talents.
