Gauff beats Sabalenka to win French Open title

Coco Gauff won her first French Open singles title. She beat world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling final.

Gauff, the second seed from America, won 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4. The match was tense and played under challenging conditions.

This victory marks Gauff's second Grand Slam title. She previously won the US Open in 2023 against Sabalenka as well.

"I honestly didn't think I could do it," said Gauff, 21, during the trophy presentation.

Gauff started poorly and trailed by a double break. However, she found her rhythm and capitalized on Sabalenka's mistakes.

Sabalenka expressed disappointment after the match. "This hurts so much," she said. "Congratulations to Coco - she was better than me."

A strong breeze affected both players' serves early on. They exchanged 12 breaks in an entertaining but inconsistent match.

Gauff settled quickly in the third set. She took a break lead and maintained her composure to serve for victory.

She faced another break point before winning on her second championship point. Gauff fell onto her back when Sabalenka hit a forehand wide.

In the stands, Gauff's parents danced with joy. After the match, she hugged Sabalenka affectionately before celebrating with her family.
