Police Ladies' captain Mary Berko has been nominated for the Female Home-based Footballer of the Year. This recognition is part of the 2025 Ghana Football Awards.
Berko played a key role in Police's successful season. They won the Malta Guinness Women's Premier League title for the first time. She scored eight goals in 17 games, helping her team finish top of the Southern Zone. Police then defeated Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the final to lift the trophy.
Berko faces tough competition from Stella Nyamekye, Mary Amponsah, and goalkeeper Annabel Bansah. Nyamekye played half a season with Dreamz Ladies before moving to Gotham FC in the US. The attacking midfielder ended as joint-third top scorer with 11 goals.
Mary Amponsah also left Ghana during the season. She scored a remarkable 15 goals, leading Ampem Darkoa Ladies to the league final.
Annabel Bansah stood out despite Faith Ladies being relegated. Her impressive performances helped them win their first major trophy, the FA Cup, against Jonina Ladies.
The 2025 Ghana Football Awards will take place on June 14. The event will be broadcast live on Joy Prime TV.
