Ghana Para-Athletes honored for Marrakech achievements by GNPC President Samson Deen

Ghana’s Para-Athletics Community celebrated a significant achievement recently. Foster Kwarteng, President of the Ghana Para Athletics Association, presented international medals to Samson Deen. Deen is the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC-Ghana). The presentation was also made on behalf of the African Paralympic Committee.

The ceremony took place in Accra. It honored 16-year-old Gilbert Ampiah and national record-holder Zinabu Issah. They excelled at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

Stellar Performances in Marrakech

Gilbert Ampiah and Zinabu Issah performed exceptionally well. They secured three medals at this prestigious competition. This event is a key qualifier for the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.

Gilbert Ampiah: A Rising Star

At just 16, Gilbert Ampiah represented St. Augustine’s College. He won his first international medal—a bronze in the Men’s T44 High Jump. He cleared an impressive height of 1.73 meters. His dedication and talent make him a beacon of hope for Ghanaian para-athletics.

- 1.60m: Cleared at Ekumfi Atwa in 2023.
- 1.82m: Achieved during St. Augustine’s inter-house competition.
- 1.86m: Current personal best from a recent competitive event.

- Classification: Successfully completed official international classification from April 21–23, 2025.

- Inspiration: Gilbert's determination inspires young Ghanaians to pursue their dreams.

Zinabu Issah: Record-Breaking Excellence

Zinabu Issah is a multiple medallist and national record-holder. She won a gold medal in the Women’s F57 Discus Throw with a record throw of 29.25 meters. She also earned silver in the F57 Shot Put with a throw of 8.54 meters.

Her performances highlight her dominance in para-athletics.

The medal presentation symbolized gratitude and ambition for Ghana's future in para-sports.

NPC-Ghana President Samson Deen praised both athletes' excellence. He encouraged young Ghanaians with disabilities to “dream big, train hard, and aim for global podiums.”

The achievements of Gilbert and Zinabu celebrate personal triumphs while positioning Ghana as a rising force in international para-athletics.
