Samson Deen, President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, announced exciting news. Ghana will host the first-ever Africa Open Classified event for para sports. This is a major milestone for the country's Paralympic movement.
Deen made this announcement during a visit to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. Ankrah is the Head of the National Sports Authority. The visit followed Ghana's strong performance at the 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco.
Deen emphasized that this event will bring prestige to Ghana. He stated, "We will organize the first open para sport festival." This festival will be significant for the Paralympic stage in Ghana.
Unlike previous competitions, this event will be free and open. Athletes will not need costly classification processes to participate.
Classification has been a challenge for many federations in Ghana. It creates financial burdens that hinder para sports development. The Africa Open Classified event aims to boost participation and attract international attention.
This initiative could inspire greater investment in para sports across Africa.
