The national U-15 girls' team of Ghana has won the 2025 CAF Africa Schools Football Championship.
This victory comes after Ghana hosted the competition for the first time in the sub-region. The girls entered the finals as favorites due to their strong performance. Meanwhile, the boys' team narrowly missed reaching the final, losing 1-0 to Tanzania in the semi-finals.
The final match was attended by notable dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama and CAF President Patrice Motsepe. The game took place at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The Black Damsels quickly established their dominance against Uganda. Christiana Ashiaku made a brilliant solo run, setting up Belinda Kpentey for an early goal. This thrilled the home crowd.
Ghana then doubled their lead with a calm finish from Daniella Abass, making it 2-0. Despite Uganda's attempts to come back, Ghana's defense held strong to secure victory and lift the trophy.
As champions, Ghana’s U-15 girls will receive a $300,000 cash prize. Uganda, as runners-up, will get $200,000. The third-place teams in both categories will each take home $150,000.
In addition, Ghana’s U-15 boys claimed bronze after defeating Uganda 2-1. Tanzania’s U-15 boys defended their title by beating Senegal in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.
In the girls’ division, former champions South Africa won bronze by edging Morocco 2-1 in their playoff match.
The four-day tournament showcased exciting youth talent across Africa and marked a successful hosting for Ghana with two podium finishes.
