Girona signed goalkeeper Pau Lopez from Olympique Marseille this summer for their European debut, but he struggled to displace Paulo Gazzaniga as the first-choice keeper.
As a result, the club has terminated his loan. Lopez, 30, made only one appearance for Girona in a Copa del Rey penalty shootout loss to Logrones.
With minimal playing time, Lopez and Girona mutually agreed to end the loan, and he is now set for another temporary move. RC Lens is reportedly the frontrunner to sign him.
The move is linked to Lens’ desire to free up squad space after the arrival of Ukrainian goalkeeper Vladyslav Krapyvstov and potential winter signings. Lopez previously spent five seasons at Roma and Marseille.
