The government is considering the elimination of the double-track schooling system and aims to extend the free Senior High School (SHS) policy to include private institutions, according to Haruna Iddrisu. The Minority Leader in Parliament revealed these plans during a recent press briefing, emphasizing that such measures could enhance educational accessibility and quality across all school types.
Iddrisu criticized the current double-track system for its inefficiencies, arguing that it has created challenges for students and parents alike. He urged the government to prioritize reforms that would streamline educational processes and ensure equitable opportunities for all students, regardless of their school affiliation.
Additionally, he expressed concerns over the sustainability of the free SHS initiative without proper funding and infrastructure support. By proposing an inclusive approach that integrates private schools into this program, Iddrisu believes it could alleviate some pressure on public institutions while maintaining high educational standards nationwide. The call for these changes reflects ongoing discussions about improving Ghana's education system amid various challenges.
