Inaki Williams, a Ghana forward, praised former Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino. This comes before Bilbao's important match against Manchester United in the Europa League. The game is set for tonight at 19:00 GMT. It is the first leg of the semifinals. The final will be held at Bilbao’s San Memes stadium.
Williams, 30, has had a strong season with 11 goals and nine assists in 46 games. He helped Bilbao win its first major trophy in 40 years by securing last season’s Copa Del Rey title. Williams credits Marcelino for improving his skills as a player.
“The click came with Marcelino,” he said. “He filled me with confidence.” They worked on controls, positioning, and finishing together. Marcelino even brought in a psychologist to help players manage anxiety during games.
“Only the greatest forwards score every chance,” Williams noted. He shared that Marcelino advised him to aim for one goal out of every three chances. “If you miss the other two, no problem,” he added.
Bilbao will rely on Williams to lead their attack as they aim for the Europa League final and hope to win the title in front of their fans.
