Philippe Diallo, president of the French FA, praised Didier Deschamps as “the greatest manager in the history of France’s national team” following Deschamps’ decision to step down after the 2026 World Cup.
Deschamps, who has managed France for 14 years, informed Diallo of his choice before the holiday season, seeking to avoid any disruptions ahead of France's March fixtures. Diallo described the decision as “personal, responsible and elegant” and acknowledged Deschamps’ continued motivation despite his long tenure.
While Diallo refrained from commenting on a successor, he expressed deep admiration for Zinédine Zidane, calling him “a landmark of French football” and “one of the greatest players in the history of football” due to his success with Real Madrid.
