Head of Referees responds to Real Madrid – ‘We might be bad or inept, but we’re not corrupt’

Luis Medina Cantalejo, President of the Referees Committee (CTA), has denied Real Madrid’s accusations of corruption against Spanish referees.

Real Madrid sent a four-page letter to RFEF President Rafael Louzan, claiming that biased officiating has cost them titles and demanding reforms, including the removal of officials linked to former CTA Vice President Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, who is under investigation for corruption.

In response, Medina stated that while referees may make mistakes, they are not corrupt. He admitted that some decisions, like the controversial non-red card for Carlos Romero’s challenge on Kylian Mbappe, may have been errors.

Meanwhile, former referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez revealed that referees feel abandoned by the RFEF and are considering strike action due to the escalating controversy.
