Hoping very good things come out of report on Nigerian Boxer’s Death- Major Retired Amarteifio

Major Retired Amarkai Amarteifio is the Chairman of a committee. This committee investigated the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju. He recently presented their report to Sports Minister Kofi Adams.

The committee was formed on April 8. It looked into Olanrewaju's death, which occurred in February. Olanrewaju was 40 years old at the time of his passing.

The committee includes former Ghana Boxing Authority President Peter Zwennes. Veteran sports journalists Ekow Asmah and Samuel Bartels are also members.

While handing over the report, Major Amarteifio expressed hope for positive outcomes. He stated that he wants this report to lead to urgent reforms.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams assured that the committee’s work would not be wasted.

Gabriel Olanrewaju collapsed during a boxing match on March 29, 2025. He was facing Ghanaian fighter Jon Mbanugu at Bukom Boxing Arena when he tragically passed away.
