How Real Madrid lost out on Alphonso Davies: Contract doubts and leaving him ‘hanging’

Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed to a new contract with Alphonso Davies, securing the Canadian left-back’s future despite Real Madrid’s interest.

Real Madrid had verbally agreed terms with Davies earlier but delayed a move, expecting to sign him for free in January.

However, Bayern's summer attempt to sell him for €55-60m, coupled with Real Madrid's hesitance, caused Davies to doubt the move.

Feeling unsupported by Real Madrid, Davies became more open to Bayern’s renewal offers, eventually committing to the club.

Real Madrid now faces challenges from their cautious transfer strategy, having missed out on Davies and other targets like Leny Yoro.

With Ferland Mendy’s form declining and defensive injuries piling up, the decision not to push harder for Davies is proving costly.
