Former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has no interest in weightlifting. He also has no interest in the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.
His comments respond to allegations from former federation president Jerry Shaib. Shaib accused Vanderpuye of using National Security personnel to push his agenda.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Vanderpuye dismissed these claims. He stated he is not interested in the federation's hierarchy.
"I am just a fan of sports now," he said. "I don’t care about who leads the federation or the Olympic Committee."
Vanderpuye emphasized that he has other responsibilities to focus on. "Why would I be interested in what happens with weightlifting?" he asked.
On March 27, the Ghana Weightlifting Federation issued a statement through administrator Seth Degbe Avayi. The statement declared that there were no sitting presidents or board members.
This announcement came amid ongoing leadership disputes within the federation. It deepens uncertainty about its governance structure.
