Former Asante Kotoko board chairman Herbert Mensah has emphasized the need for financial independence in managing Ghana’s national football teams.
Responding to recent funding challenges, such as the cancellation of the Black Queens' friendlies due to a lack of $40,000, Mensah argued that football administrators should not rely solely on government support. Instead, he proposed generating revenue through private investments and sponsorships.
Speaking to Joy News, Mensah highlighted football’s potential to attract funding, stating, “Football is the easiest thing to raise money for... you shouldn't rely on government.”
Drawing from his tenure at Kotoko, where he secured sponsorships and enhanced financial stability, Mensah advocated for self-sufficient sports management to address persistent funding issues affecting Ghana's football teams.
