Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah has criticized Ghana’s approach to football, claiming the Black Stars’ decline began long before the current Ghana Football Association (GFA) administration.
Speaking to Joy News, Mensah expressed frustration over Ghana’s reactive approach, addressing issues only during crises, such as the team’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 21 years.
He highlighted systemic flaws, including the separation of domestic league development from grassroots initiatives like school programs. Mensah argued that neglecting long-term planning for quick fixes has worsened the national team’s fortunes.
"There’s something about us Ghanaians—you only act when things are completely down," Mensah said, urging structural reforms and a focus on sustainable development to revive Ghanaian football.
