The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, welcomed a delegation from the National Sports Authority (NSA). The delegation was led by Director General Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. They met at the Police Headquarters in Accra.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and NSA. They aimed to promote sports and recreational initiatives together.
During the meeting, IGP Yohuno accepted an invitation to lead officers in a May Day Evening Walk and Workout. This event is scheduled for Thursday, 1st May 2025. He also confirmed his attendance at a Ghana Premier League match on Sunday, 4th May 2025.
This match will feature Accra Hearts of Oak against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium. IGP Yohuno introduced the Police Management Board (POMAB) to discuss sports engagement within the Service.
DCOP Lydia Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, highlighted successes of the Police Ladies football team. She urged for the revival of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games. COP Iddi Seidu, POMAB Member for Welfare, supported this idea and suggested recruiting talented athletes into the Police Service.
He mentioned that there are plans for a May Day morning walk to promote health among officers. Mr. Ampofo Ankrah praised the Ghana Police Service for its support of football and security measures at league venues nationwide.
He endorsed reviving SESSA Games to identify athletic talent within security services. In closing, IGP Yohuno reaffirmed his commitment to promoting physical fitness in the Police Service.
He announced plans for a quarterly fitness day for personnel. He assured NSA of his participation in both events, strengthening ties between their institutions.
