Winfried Schäfer, the Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, is confident. He believes Ghana can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This is possible if the team wins their next two qualifying matches.
The Black Stars recently won against Chad and Madagascar in March. These victories improved their standing in Group I. They are now in a strong position with four matches left to play.
Ghana will first face Chad away and then host Mali at home. Winning both games would greatly enhance their chances of reaching the World Cup for the fifth time.
After recent matches in London, Schäfer shared his optimism about the team. He mentioned that Ghana has talented players in top European leagues. “We have good players around,” he said, highlighting talents from Auxerre, Bilbao, and West Ham.
“If we win two matches, we can go to the World Cup,” he added. He also noted Ghana's strong position compared to rivals like Nigeria.
Currently, the Black Stars lead Group I with 15 points. Their qualification campaign will end in October with key matches against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
Ghana aims to return to the World Cup after a disappointing exit in 2022. With momentum building and key players performing well, Schäfer’s comments reflect a strong belief within the team that qualification is achievable.
