It Is Finished- Finance Minister on official abolishment of Betting Tax

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has responded to the abolishment of the Betting Tax and other levies.

The Betting Tax charged 10% on winnings from gambling activities, including lotteries. This tax was a controversial issue. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to abolish it when elected.

On Wednesday, April 2, President John Dramani Mahama signed the bill to remove the Betting Tax. He also abolished other levies like the Emissions Tax and Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

This decision follows Dr. Forson's presentation of the bill in March 2025. He introduced it to the Ninth Parliament in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

In response to President Mahama's signing, Dr. Forson posted on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “It is Finished! 1. E-Levy 2. Betting Tax 3. Emission Tax.”

The abolishment of these levies was part of Dr. Forson's promises in his first National Budget Presentation.
