It is embarrassing none of our stadiums meet international standards – Kofi Adams laments

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, expressed sadness over Ghana's sports facilities. He noted that none of the country's six national stadiums meet international standards. This situation is embarrassing, especially for hosting world-class tournaments.

Adams emphasized the need for major renovations on these facilities. However, he stated they will not rush the process without full funding. Proper funding is essential to complete the renovations and maintain the facilities.

In 2024, Ghana faced global embarrassment due to poor pitch conditions. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned the Black Stars from using Baba Yara Sports Stadium. This venue was Ghana’s only approved site for international matches.

As a result of CAF's ban, the national team had to find alternative venues abroad. After some rushed work, CAF approved Accra Sports Stadium for an upcoming match.

In a letter to the GFA General Secretary, CAF confirmed this approval. The Accra Sports Stadium will host Ghana's AFCON qualifier against Sudan on October 11, 2024.
