Millwall goalkeeper Matija Sarkic tragically passed away at 26 while on holiday in Montenegro, just weeks after a strong end to the 2023-24 season.
Sarkic, a talented and well-liked player, was key in Millwall’s late-season success.
His sudden heart failure shocked the club and fans, leaving a deep void. Sarkic had played for Aston Villa, Wolves, and Birmingham before joining Millwall.
Fluent in multiple languages, he was admired for his intelligence and work ethic.
Millwall honored him by retiring his number 20 shirt and dedicating tributes, including a mural and an annual save-of-the-season award.
His former coach, Andy Marshall, described him as "like a son," emphasizing the devastating loss to football and those close to him.
