It will be difficult to secure sponsorship - Sports Minister warns after Nsoatreman, Kotoko violence

Minister of Sports Kofi Iddie Adams has raised concerns about the deteriorating image of the Ghana Premier League following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong during the February 2, 2025, match between Nsoatreman FC and Kotoko.

Adams expressed his condolences and criticized the "win-at-all-costs" mentality that led to violence, which negatively impacts sponsorship and the league's reputation.

He also questioned the lack of stadium security and emergency response, urging a review of these systems. Adams warned that without urgent reforms, Ghanaian football risks losing its appeal.

The GFA suspended six Nsoatreman FC players, and the police arrested three individuals, including former Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah, for involvement in the violence.
