Luciano Spalletti announced his sacking as Italy's head coach on Sunday. This followed Italy's 3-0 loss to Norway in a World Cup qualifier. The defeat occurred in Oslo during the opening match for the 2026 tournament.
The 66-year-old will still coach Monday's game against Moldova. However, it will be his last match with the national team. Spalletti shared that he spoke with president Gabriele Gravina about his dismissal.
"I had no intention of giving up," Spalletti said. "I would have preferred to stay and continue my job." He confirmed he would be present for the game against Moldova before resolving his contract.
