Jerry Ahmed Shaib re-elected President of Ghana Weightlifting Federation

Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF). He received 100% of the valid votes during the virtual electoral congress on May 9, 2025. His victory over Mr. Michael Nii Yarboi Annan shows strong confidence from delegates in his leadership. Mr. Shaib will serve another four-year term to advance weightlifting in Ghana.

In other results, Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade was elected Secretary-General. He defeated Ms. Peggy Crabbe for the position. Madam Elizabeth Owusu Agyapong became Treasurer after being promoted from Deputy Treasurer with strong support from delegates.

Three new members joined the GWF governing board: Dr. Christopher Akwesi Adomako, Prof. Jonathan Quartey, and Mr. Benjamin Addy. The congress had prominent observers, including Dr. Ibrahim Abdul from Nigeria's Weightlifting Federation.

Dr. Abdul praised the GWF for a transparent and peaceful election process. He encouraged the new leadership to focus on unity and grassroots development in weightlifting.

Dr. Kyle Calhoum Pierce from the International Weightlifting Federation expressed excitement about the election results. He pledged support to expand weightlifting in schools across Ghana.

Mr. Ernest Danso, representing the Ghana Olympic Committee, commended GWF's organization of the event. He urged collaboration among all stakeholders for future success.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Shaib thanked the Elections Committee for their professionalism and dedication led by Naa Odofoley Nortey and Mr. Muniru Kassim Mohammed from GOC.

He congratulated all elected members and reaffirmed his commitment to growing the sport in Ghana ahead of hosting the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in August.
