LA Galaxy clinched their record-extending sixth MLS Cup with a 2-1 victory over New York Red Bulls on December 7, 2024. Joseph Paintsil opened the scoring in the 9th minute, slotting past goalkeeper Carlos Coronel after a through ball from midfield.
The Ghanaian star dedicated his goal to injured teammate Riqui Puig. Four minutes later, Dejan Joveljic doubled LA Galaxy's lead.
Sean Nealis scored for the Red Bulls in the 27th minute, but the score remained 2-1 at halftime and through the final whistle.
Paintsil, who joined LA Galaxy from Belgian club Genk last winter in a $9 million-plus transfer, played a pivotal role in the victory. LA Galaxy now holds the record for the most MLS Cup titles in league history.
