Jake Knapp shot a 12-under-par 59 at the Cognizant Classic in Florida, becoming the 15th player in PGA Tour history to record a sub-60 round.
The world number 99 started with five straight birdies and added seven more but missed a 19-foot eagle putt on the 18th that could have tied the lowest round in PGA Tour history.
His round is only the fifth sub-60 in a tournament’s first round, with two previous players winning after achieving it. Knapp reached 45th in the world rankings in 2024, winning the Mexico Open.
Daniel Berger, Russell Henley, and Sami Valimaki are four strokes behind him. Meanwhile, Billy Horschel shot a five-under 65 and encountered an alligator, which he moved off the fairway using his club.
