Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun, who collapsed during a bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Saturday.

Oluwasegun was competing against Accra-born John Mbanugu in Ghana’s Professional Boxing League when he collapsed in the third round. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Reports suggest he may have suffered cardiac arrest.

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has confirmed his passing, sending shockwaves through the boxing community. A viral video shows the intense match moments before his collapse. His last recorded fight was in Lagos on December 24, 2024.
