Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, expressed condolences to the boxing community. This follows the tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju in Ghana.
Gabriel died after a light-heavyweight match against Jon Mbanugu at Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra. In a press release on March 31, 2025, Adams shared his heartfelt sympathies. He represented the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Government of Ghana.

“We empathise with the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBC) and the global boxing community,” Adams stated. He noted that Gabriel’s passing highlights the unpredictable nature of boxing.
While waiting for an official medical report, Adams promised full cooperation with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). He emphasized improving athlete safety to prevent future incidents.
