Kofi Adams questions GFA’s decision to retain Otto Addo despite 'terrible' data

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has questioned the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to retain Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach despite his poor performance.

Addo oversaw Ghana’s worst qualification campaign, leading to the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

However, he has been tasked with leading Ghana’s bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup under a 34-month contract signed in early 2024.

Adams, who was appointed after the decision was made, described Addo’s record as “terrible” and found it surprising that the coach was retained while the entire backroom staff was dismissed.

He suggested financial or technical factors may have influenced the decision and plans to engage the GFA for clarification. Addo will lead Ghana against Chad and Madagascar in upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
