Niko Kovac is set to replace Nuri Sahin as Borussia Dortmund's head coach.
Dortmund secured a 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, securing a place in the play-offs despite struggling in the Bundesliga, where they sit 10th. Sahin was dismissed following a 4th consecutive defeat, including a loss to Bologna.
Kovac, who has managed in the Bundesliga before, will take over on Sunday, as confirmed by managing director Lars Ricken. Interim coach Mike Tullberg will lead the team against Heidenheim on Saturday. Kovac, previously with Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, and Wolfsburg, won the DFB Pokal with Eintracht and the Bundesliga with Bayern. Dortmund will now face either Club Brugge or Sporting CP in the Champions League play-offs.
