Anthony Edwards celebrated with teammate Naz Reid after the game.
In Game 4 on Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick kept the same five players on the court for the entire second half. Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards noticed this and felt L.A. would struggle late in the game.
"I felt like they were gassed going down the stretch," Edwards said. Minnesota overcame a 10-point deficit to win 116-113. This victory puts them up 3-1 in their first-round Western Conference series.
Edwards scored 16 of his game-high 43 points in the fourth quarter. Minnesota outscored L.A. 32-19 during that period. The Lakers shot just 5-for-18 in the fourth quarter, including 3-for-9 in the final five minutes.
LeBron James disagreed that tired legs caused their misses. "We got some really good looks," he said after scoring 27 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and making eight assists. He added that both he and Luka Doncic missed easy shots that could have changed the game.
Doncic led L.A. with 38 points but only scored seven in the fourth quarter. James did not score at all in that period and missed both of his shots. Both stars played for 46 minutes.
"Fatigue shouldn’t play any role in this," Doncic stated after the game. He acknowledged playing many minutes but believed execution was key to their struggles late on offense.
