Lamine Yamal signs 6-year extension at Barcelona

Lamine Yamal has signed a new six-year contract with Barcelona.

He had a breakout season, helping the club win a domestic treble.

The 17-year-old winger's previous deal was set to end in 2026. His new contract keeps him at Barca until 2031.

Yamal debuted for Barca at age 15 in 2023. He scored 18 goals and made 25 assists in 55 matches. This helped Barca win La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup.

Barca announced Yamal signed the new contract on Tuesday. Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco were present.

The club stated, "Yamal's renewal shows the strength of Barca's project." They added that his rise is remarkable in world football.

Yamal hails from Mataro near Barcelona. His performances are already part of Barcelona history.

He has scored 25 goals in 115 games for the club. He is the youngest scorer in La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup history.

Yamal will turn 18 in July. He is also the youngest player to reach 100 appearances for Barca.

He has earned 19 caps for Spain and won Euro 2024. Spain beat England 2-1 in the final held in Berlin.

Many compare Yamal to Barca legend Lionel Messi. Both came through the club's famous La Masia academy.

Recently, Barca extended contracts for manager Hansi Flick and forward Raphinha as well.
