Liverpool plans to activate the release clause of Jeremie Frimpong. He plays for Bayer Leverkusen and is 24 years old. The club aims to make him their first summer signing.
Frimpong can play on the right side of the field. Dutch manager Arne Slot wants him for next season. Talks about a deal have advanced in recent days.
His release clause is around 35 million euros (£29.5 million). Liverpool is expected to meet this amount soon.
Signing Frimpong could ease the loss of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid when his contract ends this season.
Frimpong came through Manchester City's youth ranks and played for Celtic. He could take over as right-back from Alexander-Arnold.
This season, he has made 53 appearances for club and country. He helped Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga title in 2024.
Celtic will receive part of any transfer fee Leverkusen gets. Reports suggest they negotiated a sell-on fee of up to 30% when he left in 2021.
