Merseyside Police have arrested a 53-year-old white British man. He was detained after a car hit pedestrians during Liverpool's Premier League trophy parade. This incident left two people with serious injuries.
A total of 27 people were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Among them, one is a child who has serious injuries. Four children in total were injured in the incident.
Twenty people received treatment at the scene and did not need hospitalization. A cyclist paramedic was also struck by the vehicle but was unharmed.
Firefighters rescued four individuals trapped under the car, including a child. Nick Searle, chief fire officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed this.
Emergency services arrived on Water Street shortly after 6 PM on Monday. They responded to reports of the collision.
The car stopped at the scene, and police detained a local man believed to be the driver.
Merseyside Police assistant chief constable Jenny Sims stated that this incident is not being treated as terrorism. At a press conference on Monday evening, she said it appears to be an isolated event. Authorities are not currently searching for any additional suspects related to it.
