The Ghana Basketball Federation (GBBF) Secretary General, Rafiq Mohammed Arthur, discussed logistics issues. He believes these issues make promoting 3x3 basketball easier than the standard format.
Arthur spoke in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports. This was ahead of the 3x3 Hoops Rave Basketball Championship. The event will take place at the Trust Sports Emporium in Bukom from April 10 to April 12. It will feature 42 Senior High Schools competing.
Arthur highlighted two main reasons for promoting 3x3 basketball. First, five-on-five basketball requires a team of 12 players and up to seven officials. This creates a significant financial burden. In contrast, 3x3 only needs four players and a coach.
Second, it is easier to participate internationally in 3x3 basketball. Reaching the top level is more accessible compared to five-on-five basketball. However, he clarified that they are not neglecting five-on-five basketball development.
Ghana won silver in the Men’s 3x3 Basketball competition at the 2023 African Games. For more information, scroll down to view groups for the 2025 3x3 Hoop Rave.
