‘Machomen’ with guns and knives were bused by Holy Stars to match centre - Nations FC alleges

Kennedy Boakye Ansah, Brands Manager of Nations FC, made serious allegations. He claimed Basake Holy Stars used a GFA-donated bus to transport armed men. These men were described as heavily built and carried knives and guns. They arrived at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena before their match.

During the high-stakes game on Sunday, Nations FC walked off the pitch. This happened in the first half after a second penalty was awarded against them. At that point, they were trailing 1-0 after Basake converted a penalty in the 32nd minute.

Nations FC released a statement about poor security and officiating. They cited these issues as reasons for boycotting the game. In an interview with Delali Atiase on Luv Sports Blitz Xtra, Ansah expressed concerns about safety.

He stated that the home team created a hostile atmosphere for players. “We haven't had any issues with Basake Holy Stars before,” he said. He noted that even during their time in Division 1, there were no problems.

Ansah emphasized fair play is essential to avoid relegation. He criticized using intimidation tactics to win games. He alleged that 'machomen' with weapons were brought to intimidate his team.

“My biggest disappointment is with the head of the Western Regional Association,” he said. He mentioned this person is also the owner of Basake Holy Stars.

Ansah claimed this individual arrived in a GFA-provided pick-up truck. The same bus was allegedly used to transport armed men into the stadium twice.

He reported that these men were holding knives and guns when spotted by their safety officer. This prompted Nations FC's decision not to continue playing.

“We realized those three points weren't worth risking lives,” he explained. Therefore, they prioritized safety over continuing the match.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has not yet commented on this incident.
