Manchester United has informed some staff at their Carrington training ground about job losses. This is the second round of redundancies since Sir Jim Ratcliffe invested in the club last year.
Club insiders report that up to 200 jobs may be cut. The process has been ongoing for weeks, and most staff know their status. However, some first-team staff were only informed on Friday to avoid disrupting preparations for the Europa League final against Tottenham.
Now that the game is over, affected staff are being notified. Areas likely impacted include sports science, medical, and scouting departments. Staff had previously been told their positions would be clarified later.
Morale at the club is low after the recent defeat by Tottenham in the final. Club sources insist that the timeline for redundancies remains unchanged.
Before last year's cuts, United had around 1,100 employees. The first round of redundancies saw about 250 employees let go, saving between £8 million and £10 million.
Earlier this year, CEO Omar Berrada indicated that another 150 to 200 redundancies were expected. The loss in Bilbao means United will miss European football next season for only the second time since 1990. This absence creates a £100 million gap in the club's finances.
