Manchester United has signed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 26-year-old is Man Utd's first signing of the summer. Ruben Amorim is reshaping his squad. The club announced that the "signing is subject to visa and registration."
Cunha scored 15 goals last season and provided six assists. His contributions helped Wolves avoid Premier League relegation.
Man Utd will travel to the USA for this year’s Summer Series. The tour runs from July 26 to August 3. It starts with a match against West Ham United at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Cunha is familiar to Premier League fans after three seasons in England.
He was born in Joao Pessoa, Brazil, in May 1999. He developed a love for football through futsal before switching sports.
His career took off in 2017 when he signed with Swiss club Sion. He scored 10 goals and had eight assists in just 32 appearances. This performance caught the attention of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, which he joined after one season.
In Germany, Cunha gained valuable UEFA Champions League experience. He also received a nomination for the FIFA Puskas Award for an incredible solo goal against Bayer Leverkusen.
After moving to Hertha Berlin, he joined Atletico Madrid in August 2021. However, he struggled to score goals while in Spain.
In January 2023, he was loaned to Wolves with a permanent transfer agreement for summer. He scored twice during that half-season and added another 12 Premier League goals in the 2023/24 season.
This past campaign saw him achieve career-best stats with 21 goal contributions, attracting interest from top clubs.
