Manchester United winger Amad Diallo reacted to fans in Malaysia. He made an obscene gesture after facing "serious personal abuse," according to the club.
The Ivory Coast international was seen putting up his middle finger. This happened outside the team's hotel in Kuala Lumpur during their post-season tour. A video of the incident spread widely on social media.
United stated that Amad's gesture was a response to insults about his mother. He expressed his feelings on X, saying, "I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mum."
Amad added, "I shouldn't have reacted like that but I don't regret what I did." The club clarified that the abuse was not racist in nature.
Some suggested that he was upset by fans shouting "Diallo" at him. Previously, Amad faced legal issues while at Atalanta. He was fined £42,000 by the Italian FA in 2021 for using false documents to enter Italy.
After dropping Traore from his name, he requested to be known simply as Amad. Manchester United lost 1-0 to the ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday. Amad played during the second half of that match.
The team will conclude their post-season tour with a game against Hong Kong on Friday.
