Bruno Fernandes has turned down a big offer from Al-Hilal.
The Saudi Pro-League club's deal would have more than doubled his salary at Manchester United. Fernandes is one of the highest earners at the club.
After discussing it with his family, he decided not to join Al-Hilal. He will likely address this decision in a press conference on Tuesday. This comes before Portugal's Nations League semi-final on Wednesday.
Manchester United is pleased with Fernandes' choice. Coach Ruben Amorim had expressed confidence that he would stay at Old Trafford.
There were no direct talks between United and Al-Hilal. Therefore, United never received a formal bid to consider. Reports suggested Al-Hilal might offer between £80m and £100m for the 30-year-old player.
It remains unclear if Al-Hilal will look for other targets now. Since joining from Sporting in January 2020 for £47m, Fernandes has made 290 appearances and scored 98 goals for United.
Former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville spoke about the situation on Sky Sports. He believes the transfer would not have been bad for the club but emphasized Fernandes' importance.
Neville said, "He wants to stay and fight through this." He added that turning down such money shows character and commitment to the club.
"The team needs players willing to give their all," Neville concluded.
