Gerardo Martino has resigned as head coach of Inter Miami, citing personal reasons, despite having a year left on his contract.
Appointed in June 2023, Martino led the club to their first trophies—the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters' Shield—after inheriting a struggling side.
Inter Miami's managing owner, Jorge Mas, confirmed a new coach would be announced soon, with Javier Mascherano among the leading candidates. Martino's tenure saw significant improvement, although the team fell short in the 2024 playoffs, losing to Atlanta United.
Martino expressed gratitude for his time with the club, while Mas noted Lionel Messi's input in selecting the next coach. Messi, whose contract ends in 2025, is expected to stay until the club's new stadium opens in 2026.
