Mathias Pogba, the brother of French footballer Paul Pogba, was sentenced by a Paris court to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his involvement in a 2022 extortion attempt against his sibling.
The court imposed a 20,000-euro fine and ruled that he will serve one year with an electronic bracelet instead of in prison.
Mathias, along with five other men, tried to extort 13 million euros from Paul Pogba, pressuring him and his family.
The other defendants received fines ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 euros, with prison sentences of up to eight years. Mathias's lawyer intends to appeal, calling the verdict "extremely harsh."
