Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Osei Boateng believes Ghana has not learned from the May 9 stadium disaster. This tragedy claimed 126 lives.
On the anniversary of the disaster, Boateng expressed his disappointment. He noted ongoing issues like poor officiating and crowd violence at local matches.
"The lessons we need to learn are crucial," he said. "But we haven't learned anything from what caused the tragedy."
He pointed to recent incidents involving Vision FC and Nsoatreman as proof that problems continue.
Boateng stressed the need for change in referees' and supporters' behavior. "If we don't change our attitudes about the game, nothing will improve," he warned. This change is essential even in major tournaments.
The May 9 disaster remains a painful memory for Boateng. He was part of the Kotoko team on that tragic day. His comments remind us of the importance of safety and responsible behavior in football stadiums.
