Mbappe scores Real Madrid equaliser in Atletico draw

Kylian Mbappe secured a crucial point for Real Madrid in a tense derby against Atletico Madrid, keeping them atop La Liga.

Atletico took the lead in the 35th minute with a controversial penalty converted by Julian Alvarez via a ‘Panenka’ after VAR ruled Aurelien Tchouameni fouled Samuel Lino.

Real Madrid equalized five minutes into the second half when Mbappe reacted quickly to Jude Bellingham’s deflected shot, scoring his 16th league goal of the season.

Bellingham came close to a winner, hitting the crossbar and forcing a save from Jan Oblak. The draw leaves Real Madrid one point ahead of Atletico, with Barcelona five points behind but able to close the gap against Sevilla.

Real Madrid now shift focus to their Champions League clash against Manchester City.
