Medeama to SACK underperforming striker Francis Andy Kumi at end of season

Medeama SC, a Ghana Premier League team, will end striker Francis Andy Kumi's contract. This decision will take effect after the 2024/25 season.

Kumi, 24, joined Medeama in August 2024 on a two-year deal. He arrived with high expectations but has not made an impact in Tarkwa. His poor performances have led the club to exclude him from coach Ibrahim Tanko’s future plans.

Medeama is preparing for a major squad overhaul for the 2025/26 season. Kumi is one of several senior players expected to leave. Fellow forward Diawisie Taylor is also reportedly on the departure list.

Kumi's move to Medeama was highly anticipated. He turned down an offer from Accra Hearts of Oak before joining. However, he struggled to find form and consistency at Medeama.

Previously, Kumi had a successful stint with Kotoku Royals in the 2022/23 season. He scored nine goals for them before moving to Serbian side FK Radnički Niš. There, he was their top scorer despite relegation.

After a short time with OFK Vršac in Serbia, Kumi returned to Ghana as a free agent. He signed with Medeama hoping to revive his career after leaving Bechem United in 2022.

Medeama’s decision reflects their intent to reshape the squad under coach Ibrahim Tanko. They aim to build a more competitive team for next season. As Kumi's time at Tarkwa ends, he looks forward to new opportunities—either in Ghana or abroad—to reignite his career.
