Right-back Michael Ampadu will leave Accra Hearts of Oak after the 2024/25 season. The club confirmed he is not part of their plans for 2025/26.
The 26-year-old defender will become a free agent in July 2025. This ends his time with the Phobians, just over a year after joining.
Sources say Ampadu's departure is due to issues with head coach Aboubakar Ouattara. Their relationship worsened during the second half of the season. They reportedly disagreed on tactical roles and playing time.
Ampadu started the season as Hearts’ first-choice right-back. However, his role decreased after new defensive players joined in January. His last start was on Matchday 26, and he has played less since then.
Despite these challenges, Ampadu made 21 appearances this season. He contributed 2 assists and averaged solid defensive stats per game.
Recently, he was brought back into the team but won't have his contract renewed. This decision is part of a squad overhaul led by Ouattara and approved by the board.
The club aims to rebuild after a disappointing season without a top-four finish. Ampadu is now considering offers from local Ghana Premier League clubs and lower-tier European teams. Interest in him is reportedly growing ahead of the transfer window.
