Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca unveils new look

Casablanca's Mohammed V Sports Complex reopened on Saturday evening. This was for the derby between Wydad and Raja.

The event was part of Matchday 26 of the Botola Pro D1 "Inwi" football league. The stadium recently underwent a major redevelopment project.

This upgrade prepares the venue for upcoming events. These include the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 World Cup.

The renovation began in March 2024 and finished in March 2025. It included replacing all 45,000 seats in the stadium.

Improvements were made to the press box, sound system, and video surveillance. Access control systems were also upgraded during this project.

Four changing rooms and warm-up areas were developed as well. A mixed zone and a new central tunnel for players were created too.

The pitch was replaced with a modern hybrid surface. The athletics track was renovated, lighting upgraded, and advertising screens replaced.

Traffic flow improvements included a new building for regulation purposes. A new access ramp for players' buses was also built.

VIP and VVIP parking areas were established along with a TV compound. Media lounges, conference rooms, dressing rooms, restrooms, refreshment areas, and public infirmaries were upgraded too.

The number of gates and access points increased as well. Outside the stadium, sidewalks and green spaces were resurfaced.

Exterior lighting was improved along with repairs to fencing and annexes. Officially opened in 1955, this complex has hosted many major sporting events.

Morocco is becoming a leader in sports both in Africa and internationally. Under King Mohammed VI's leadership, Morocco aims to enhance its sports infrastructure.

This effort supports preparations for hosting AFCON 2025 and the co-hosting of the World Cup in 2030 with Spain and Portugal.

Morocco is investing heavily to meet FIFA and CAF standards. This will help solidify its position as a global sports hub.

Numerous stadiums are under construction or renovation across the country. These include Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane and Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Grand Stade de Tangier is also being expanded according to FIFA specifications. Major stadiums in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir are undergoing rehabilitation as well.

These renovations aim to comply first with CAF standards then FIFA standards later on. Studies for this second phase are complete; work will start after AFCON 2025.

Additionally, Al Barid Stadium and Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium are being reconstructed in Rabat.
