Morocco seal top spot in Group B with commanding win over Tunisia

Morocco Under-20 team finished their group stage unbeaten. They won 3-1 against Tunisia at the Suez Canal Stadium. This victory secured them the top spot in Group B of the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2025.

Ayman Arguigue scored first in the first half. Late goals from Smail Bakhty and substitute Jones El Abdellaoui sealed the win. Tunisia equalized early in the second half with a goal from Anis Doubal. However, they could not maintain momentum and now await news on qualifying as one of the best third-placed teams.

The match was crucial for both teams to secure knockout spots. The simultaneous game between Nigeria and Kenya ended in a 2-2 draw. This result allowed Morocco to finish first with seven points, while Nigeria took second place with five.

Morocco started strong, applying pressure on Tunisia's defense. Their efforts paid off just before halftime when Arguigue scored in the 44th minute. He was assisted by a precise cross from Zahouani.

After halftime, Tunisia responded well and equalized in the 53rd minute. Doubal scored from distance to level the match. But Morocco regained control and took back the lead in the 86th minute through Bakhty’s quick reaction during a scramble.

El Abdellaoui confirmed Morocco's victory during stoppage time. He finished neatly after a fast counterattack against Tunisia's goalkeeper. This win highlights Morocco's strong defensive unit and effective forwards.

They remain unbeaten over nine group-stage matches in this competition. For Tunisia, this defeat marks another missed chance despite some quality play. They end third in their group with three points and a negative goal difference.

Tunisia will now hope to qualify for quarter-finals as one of two best third-placed teams, but this loss may hinder their chances.
